This highly interactive on-site workshop brings together Asia scholars from around the country to provide Arkansas teachers with opportunities to engage Japan and China beyond the traditional social studies classroom, including in physical education, science, music appreciation, and art classes. It also provides social studies teachers with high-impact instructional strategies for engaging Asia in new ways– through martial arts, Buddhist tea culture, ancient Daoist chemistry, Chinese dance, taiko drumming, origami, and calligraphy. Benefits to participants include: 6 hours of Continuing Education Credit, complementary registration for the annual meeting of the Southwest Conference on Asian Studies (a $100 value) including cultural performances and presentations by top scholars of Asia from around the world, $40 stipend, and priority registration for future NCTA programs and events.
