Teaching Korea Through Pop Culture + Korean Night

Audience: We welcome applications from fulltime K-12 teachers and administrators in any subject area. NCTA program alumni (all sites) are especially encouraged to apply.
Course Description: Korean pop culture has taken the world by storm in the 21st century, opening up meaningful opportunities to explore Korean society through the lenses of film, TV, music and other cultural forms. This enrichment will introduce teachers to new strategies and perspectives for effectively using Korean pop culture in their classrooms.
Registration and Info:

A panel of experienced educators who currently teach Korean film, TV, music, arts, etc. will present their work to an audience of enrichment participants and preservice educators with the panel discussant, Clinical Assistant Professor Sharon Daley, LCLE, IU School of Education. Following the panel, Professor John Lie (UC Berkeley, Sociology) will give an open talk to the public about his new book, K-Pop: Popular Music, Cultural Amnesia, and Economic Innovation in South Korea. Afterwards, participants will have the afternoon to enjoy Korean Night 2017, a celebration of Korean culture, history, and food on the IU campus.

Accepted teachers/administrators will be required to pay a $30 registration fee. EASC will provide discounted airfare from a local airport to Indianapolis, two nights lodging in Bloomington (3/24-3/25), two meals, and a modest resource stipend.
